What is SPAN’s mission?
The mission of the Seniors’ Pet Assistance Network (SPAN) is to serve the needs of Dallas-area seniors who require assistance in caring for their companion animals.

We accomplish this by providing financial assistance or subsidies, when available and with demonstrated need, for basic pet needs such as food, grooming, and veterinary care; and creating a network of relationships with Dallas-area animal welfare organizations to assist in providing new homes for pets that can no longer stay with their owners. Future plans for the organization include offering in-home assistance that allows seniors to keep their animal companions, including temporary care of a pet when the owner is hospitalized, and providing transportation to and from veterinary clinics and other pet-related errands for seniors who are homebound

SPAN serves as a volunteer resource to the elder support programs of Dallas-area senior organizations, and in doing so, the organization also strives to improve the quality of life for seniors’ pets. A private 501(c)3 non-profit organization, SPAN is funded solely through private donations and operated by volunteers.

How is SPAN funded?
A private, 501(c)3 non-profit organization, SPAN is funded solely through the generosity of donors. We do not receive governmental subsidies.

How can I make a donation to SPAN?
SPAN accepts monetary donations via checks and secure online credit card transactions. Click here if you would like to make a donation at this time.

How will my donation be used?
Your donation will be used to provide financial aid for seniors’ pet needs such as food, grooming, and veterinary care. Future services will include transportation and other pet-related needs for seniors who are homebound, as well as a program to provide temporary care of a pet whose owner is hospitalized.

Is my donation to SPAN tax-deductible?
Yes. SPAN is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, so any donation made to our organization is tax-deductible. We will provide tax receipts for all donations.

Once I make a donation, how long will it take to receive verification for tax purposes?
Unless you request otherwise, all donors will receive a thank you note and tax receipt within a few weeks of SPAN receiving your donation.

I’m interested in volunteering. How can I help?

How much of my donation to SPAN goes directly to helping senior citizens and their pets?
Other than nominal administrative costs such as mailbox rental and phone charges, all donations are directly used to help senior citizens and their pets in the Dallas area. SPAN is operated on a 100% volunteer basis, which allows our funds to be used for these needs.

Can I donate stock, my RV, boat, or vehicle to SPAN?
Most definitely! Because we are a non-profit organization, any of the above donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. However, since individual tax situations may vary, please check with your financial consultant to best determine how you may benefit. 

What other donated items does SPAN accept?
From time to time, SPAN will host garage sales and related events to raise additional funds for our organization. For information about dates and donation information, please contact us. Donations may include furniture, books, clothing and other items in gently used condition.

Pet toys, litter boxes, dog houses, and unopened pet food for dogs and cats are always welcome any time of the year, as well as bird seed and cages for our feathered friends.

Will SPAN accept a donation in honor or memory of a pet or person?
Yes! This is a meaningful way to honor the ones you love while helping protect our seniors’ animals. There is no minimum donation required and if you wish, a SPAN representative will send a note to the person or family representative acknowledging your donation.

Will SPAN share my personal information with outside parties?

We wish we could help, but SPAN does not have the resources to place pets in homes at this time. However, please click here for a list of animal welfare organizations that may be of assistance to you.

I don’t live in the Dallas area. Can you help me?
Currently, SPAN is only able to serve those in the Dallas area.
